Mediterranean Garden in Beckenham

Mediterranean planting scheme with stylish black backdrop for low maintenance, drought tolerant colour and foliage.

The clients’ dogs had destroyed the lawn so the clients had it gravelled and added the black raised beds, fences and pergola, and grey composite decking.

They wanted a Mediterranean garden full of whites, blues, purples, wafting grasses and fragrant climbers. They also needed low maintenance drought tolerant planting, and perennials and shrubs to complement their bay and olive trees already in situ.

Specimen planting includes Nepeta Walker’s Low, Phoenix canariensis palms, Hydrangea quercifolia, Verbena bonariensis, Scabiosa, Sanguisorba, Rosemarinus prostratus, Melianthus major, Callistemon and Santolina.

Grasses/ sedges include Calamagrostis Karl Foerster, Pennisetum Hameln and Libertia grandiflora. Climbers include Trachelospermum jasminoides, Akebia quinata and Rosa Banksia Lutea.

The garden has established well with the recent rain, and is already full of fragrance, blooms and pollinators.
